Handcrafted Whiskey / Bourbon Barrel Cabinet, made from an authentic oak Whiskey barrel. Because these cabinets are crafted using actual used Whiskey barrels, there will always be unique variations to the look and colors of the finished barrels. This gives them the sought after, rustic look that is unable to be duplicated. Each cabinet is hand sanded, stained, and finished with a coat of polyurethane.

The cabinet is 35” tall and 24” wide at the widest part of the barrel. The top of the cabinet is roughly 21.5” in diameter. All whiskey barrels are unique in size, shape and patina(color), so the dimensions will vary slightly.

Stain Options: The standard color stain that we use is Dark Walnut by Minwax. We can stain the cabinets with a different stain upon request. MInwax stains are readily available in our area, plus Minwax makes a quality stain. MInwax has their color options posted on their website, so you can see their color options there. Please note that stains will appear different on different species of wood.

Whiskey / Bourbon is aged in oak barrels. Whiskey barrels are a vital part of the whiskey making process; as a matter of fact, many distillers consider barrels to be a part of their recipe. When whiskey is first distilled it is clear and not near as pleasant to drink as whiskey that has been aged in a barrel. Inside the barrel is where a whiskey’s flavor, color and mouth feel are developed. Whiskey gets its vanilla, caramel, coconut and wood flavors from the barrel.

Whiskey in the United States is typically aged in a barrel for 4 to 10 years. After the barrels are dumped, they are still usable, but American Whiskey Distilleries only use a whiskey barrel one time. So, what do the distilleries do with all of their used barrels? The distilleries sell their barrels to the rum, gin, tequila, beer and scotch distilleries.

They also sell a few barrels to Barn Works Designs. At Barn Works Designs, we turn reclaimed barrels into useful items that reflect the rustic charm of Bourbon. We make everything from bottle openers to bar sets. Every piece that we make is a unique one of a kind item, because no two barrels are ever the same.
